Music Makes a Difference
Since the 1990's, Concerts Norway and most of the nation’s counties have produced and distributed concerts for preschool children. Children who are now grown-ups, have met musicians who told them stories both old and new, stories from all over the world, stories that depicted the cycles and seasons of nature, stories that triggered flights of fancy, with rhymes, jingles, dance and song – all through the means of music, rhythm, and sounds.
The concerts take for the most part place at the preschool, as part of the concept “Live Music for Preschool Children”. Most of the concerts are primarily designed for the age group 3-6 years, but concert productions for children 0-3 years are also an important part of the programme.
The artists that tour preschools are professional musicians who perform concerts within a wide variety of musical styles. Together with the county’s producer, the musicians create concert forms especially produced and adapted for preschool children. Each county municipality distributes the concerts to their district/municipalities.
Norwegian counties that are currently part of the preschool concert programme are Østfold, Hedmark, Oppland, Buskerud, Telemark, Aust-Agder, Vest-Agder, Rogaland, Sogn & Fjordane, and Nord-Trøndelag. From autumn 2013, Møre & Romsdal and Troms counties will also be part of the arrangement.
