Sara Övinge

Violinist Sara Övinge, born 1988 in the Swedish city Norrköping, is considered one of Scandinavia’s most talented young musicians today. She started to receive violin lessons only four years old and had her first appearance as soloist with Norrköping Symphony Orchestra at the age of 6. 16 years old she was admitted to the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Since 2007 she has studied with Prof. Peter Herresthal at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo, and is currently completing her Soloist Diploma there, as the youngest diploma student ever. Autumn 2010 she will embark on her Artist Diploma in Performance at the Royal College of Music in London.

Sara has appeared as soloist in various European countries and received numerous grants, awards and prizes. This spring she is one of three finalists in Sweden’s biggest music competition, the Swedish Soloist Prize. As one of two winners of Concerts Norway’s INTRO Classical competition in 2009, Sara is part of the INTRO Classical programme and will be launched in Norway and abroad during 2010 – 2011.

Sara already has a considerable experience as soloist with orchestra. She won the soloist audition for Orkester Norden in 2008, resulting in several concerts throughout Norway. She was also selected for Young Talents concerts with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and Trondheim Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with the Royal College of Music’s Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm, and with the Royal Norwegian Navy’s Band. With Norrköping Symphony Orchestra she has appeared four times. Her favourite concertos include Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Ole Bull’s Concerto Fantastico and Barber’s Violin Concerto.
