IDA BRYHN - viola


The viola player Ida Bryhn is already recognized as a profiled young artist in Norwegian musical life. She has performed at several Norwegian festivals like Bergen International Festival, Oslo Chamber Music Festival, Risør Chamber Music Festival and Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, as well as festivals abroad like the Verbier festival, Ravinia festival, Music @ Menlo and Open Chamber Music at Prussia Cove. She has been soloist with Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Jukka Pekka Saraste), Norwegian Radio Orchestra and a number of other orchestras and chamber orchestras.
In 2008 Ms. Bryhn was awarded the Shell Prize. The same year she was selected for Rikskonsertene / Concerts Norway’s prestigious launching programme INTRO Classical.

Ida Bryhn started out her studies at Barratt Due’s Music Institute in Oslo at 6. 12 years later she became a viola student at Edsberg’s Music Institute, Royal Academy in Stockholm. With a scholarship from the US – Norway Fulbright Foundation she studied with Kim Kashkashian at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston 2003 – 2005. In 2008 she completed her Artist Diploma at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo with Lars Anders Tomter as viola teacher. In addition she has taken part in numerous master classes with the most distinguished musicians today.

A passionate chamber musician, Ms. Bryhn has collaborated with such artists as Leif Ove Andsnes, Anner Bylsma, Håkan Hagegård, Ilya Gringolds, Phillippe Graffin and Oleg Kogan, and with ensembles like the Rasumovsky Ensemble and Vertavo String Quartet.

A considerable orchestral experience should also be mentioned. Ida Bryhn is principal viola player in Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and has had the same position in Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the New England Conservatory’s Philharmonia Orchestra and Edsberg’s Chamber Orchestra.  She has played in several national and international youth orchestras as well.
