The National Arts Council (NAC)

The National Arts Council is composed of 22 members from the cultural field and supports projects that are of national importance in South Africa. The Council is responsible for allocating funds to individual performers, institutions and organisations, and provides assistance within genres such as music and opera, literature, handicrafts, theatre and musical theatre, dance, choreography and multimedia. The NAC’s objectives include supporting artistic display, eliminating inequalities within cultural activities, promoting an understanding of art, and submitting recommendations to the authorities on a national culture policy.
