PASMAE – the Pan African Society for Musical Arts Education

PASMAE was established in 2000 with the aim of promoting and advancing the teaching of music on the African continent. The Society consists of music teachers, researchers and performers in the field of African music and dance, and is a member of the UNESCO organisation ISME (International Society of Music Education). The target group of the current programme is teachers and pupils in the SADC countries (Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia, Swaziland, Namibia and Malawi).

Influencing local authorities represents an important aspect of PASMAE’s programme, and the Society therefore has close contact with both central teaching departments and leading educational institutions to facilitate its contribution to sustainable development in the field.
