Pasmae SADC

Concerts Norway has collaborated with PASMAE (Pan African Society for Musical Arts Education) since 2004 concerning the use of African traditional music and dance in the schools of Mosambique, Zambia, Swaziland, Malawi, Botswana and Namibia. From 2010 Concerts Norway cooperates with Lesotho, Swaziland, Malawi and Namibia. The collaboration is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The program is centered around CIIMDA (Centre for Indigenous African Instrumental Music and Dance Practices), situated in Pretoria.

The goal is to strengthen traditional African dance and music in the schools, in order to make it a natural part of the education, as a counterbalance to the strong influence of western music in the schools.
