Nepal

On assignment from the Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu, Concerts Norway investigated in 2004 opportunities for developing a music cooperation with Nepal. This led to the establishment of a five-year collaboration with Music Nepal targeted at strengthening and stimulating the music arena in Nepal – with music education as a particular area of priority. The establishment of music schools for talented children and youth and the exchange of musicians and various documentation and internationalisation initiatives will represent major ingredients of the cooperation.
The programme, as it is today, will end in 2012. After that, Nepal Music Center will hopefully function as a resource for the Nepalese authorities.
In order to strenghten Nepal Music Center and the school's international network further, a collaboration between Universitetet i Agder has taken place since 2009, arranged by the Norwegian Fredskorpset. Until now, three Nepalese and three Norwegian music teachers have gotten the opportunity to be part of an exchange. A new exchange will take place in 2011.
