SPIC MACAY
SPIC MACAY began its work in 1977. The Society seeks to preserve and increase the interest in the rich and heterogeneous Indian cultural tapestry among India’s young people by focusing on classical arts and their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy.
The movement soon recognised young people’s need for roots and identity, and this spread both in the number of those attracted and in the geographical area. To enable the ideas to find a firm footing they are introduced in small doses to each individual, and they have led to an increase in the demand for concerts at both schools and colleges. Today a network has been established consisting of more than 300 local branches of SPIC MACAY throughout India and a further 50 branches outside the country. More than 2000 events are arranged annually.
SPIC MACAY has developed its programme in several different directions: the point of departure for the activities is basically concerts, but the programme also encompasses dance and stage art as well as yoga. Lectures, demonstrations, festivals and conferences are arranged, and the activities include a grant system involving a stay with a guru and films. http://www.spicmacay.org/
