With the approval of the State Council of the P.R. China, China Shanghai International Arts Festival is the state-level International Arts Festival, hosted by the Ministry of Culture and organised by Shanghai Municipal People's Government. Since 1999, it has been proudly held in Shanghai from 18 October to 18 November.

• The festival is the largest in China, with 1.2 million visitors, and is to be arranged in 2008 for the tenth time.

• The goals of the festival are to present different modes of cultural expression of outstanding quality, to promote ethnic Chinese art and the exchange of culture between China and other countries, and to contribute to developing the market for culture.

• In addition to the artistic programme, the festival arranges seminars, workshops and fora for the further development of different forms of cultural expression.
